Top Notch video shoot: It’s a wrap

Posted on 15 June 2009 by Jason

June 14th – Dallas Texas

Principal photography wrapped on our latest video project this weekend.

Produced by Brown Management, and featuring rappers 10 Million and J Wallace, the video for “Lil Mama Top Notch” was shot on schedule and on budget.
The models of Dallas Honeys and Five Star Modelling delivered the sizzle in the hot Texas sun. The women endured temperatures exceeding 90 degrees during parts of the shoot, but they still delivered energetic performances and dazzling smiles.

The video is now in our post production house for FX work and color grading.
The video has a release date in the early part of July.

The agile production crew of Primal FX Studios again showed why they continue be a rising force in digital film production in Dallas. With the Mobile Backlot, they were able to offer a wide array of creative options to client that fit both time and budget constraints.

“Our job here is to deliver the ‘WOW’ factor to the client. Digital video technology has broken down barriers that kept indie artists out of the game. Bottom line, Primal FX Studios can you attention, and not break the bank” says Jason Heath, Lead Technical Director.

On the Set: “Top Notch” video shoot

Posted on 08 June 2009 by Jason

Updated 15 June 2009

This saturday, we shot our second video for hip-hop artist 10 Million and J Wallace in Dallas.

We had models from the Dallas Honeys and Kyss Kyss on set, and they were very impressive.
This shoot was going to be a very guerrilla style production, with a single HV30 and a 5k light package.
Since it was a music video, we didn’t have to shoot sync sound, and that made things a little easier.

The crew of 4 (me, the AD, and 2 grips) kept the production moving.

Having planned out my shot list, I knew that we were going to get all the coverage we needed.

I will go more into depth on the planning and production of this video soon.

Round 2 of shooting for Top Notch took place Saturday the 13th in downtown Dallas.

The lovely ladies from Dallas Honeys returned, along with the models from Five Star Modelling.
Even though it was blazing hot outside, the performers delivered great performances.
There is no doubt that the models were at the top of their game, bringing a sophisticated yet sexy style to the production. We are definitely looking forward to collaborating with these professionals again.

The executive team from Brown Management did a fantastic job of producing and securing locations for the shoot, as well as setting up the cookout to feed the cast and crew.
Many thanks to Rich for braving the heat and making a great meal.

“Lil Mama Top Notch” is now in post production and should be released in July.

For everyone at the shoot, we will have photos posted soon (we have *TONS* to process!).
Feel free to contact us here if you have any questions.

Site overhaul

Posted on 08 June 2009 by Jason

It’s no great secret that I have been doing alot more film and video production lately, and so, this site needed a dramatic overhaul.

When Primal FX was first created back in 1994, it was mainly my graphics design work that was on display. As time has progressed, there has been a steady ebb and flow of what Primal was all about.

The past few years, I have focused mainly on technical projects, mainly web oriented data driven sites for some big clients. It was challenging, rewarding and paid well.

The past year, I have focused more on filmmaking and visual storytelling. And it’s time this blog reflected that.

So don’t be surprised if you see the look and feel changing. I have had a ton of work lately, enough that I am approaching the point to where I can think about handing off my existing clients work to some friends and focus strictly on film fx and video production.

Exciting times ahead!
